There are several goals for the first dental visit. First, the pediatric dentist and the child need to get properly acquainted. Second, the dentist needs to monitor tooth and jaw development to get an idea of the child’s overall health history. Third, the dentist needs to evaluate the health of the existing teeth and gums. Finally, the dentist aims to answer questions and advise parents on how to implement a good oral care regimen.
In order to reduce your child's anxiety regarding the dentist, we ask that you use the following terminology when talking to your child about their dental visits:
Instead of the word "drill", which might cause your child anxiety, please use our terminology: " Mr. Whistle" or " Mr. Bumblebee"
Water: " Mr. Thirsty"
Instead of " shot", please use " sleepy juice". We try are hardest to make sure that your child does not know that a needle is used when numbing their mouth for dental work.
By using child-friendly terminology and keeping a positive atmosphere, we hope to make your child's dental appointment an enjoyable experience.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us.
